WEIRD BRITISH FOOD

And I’m not talking about the type you (well, you non-Brits) are all thinking of – like the love affair Britain seems to have with boiling the crap out of everything, and deep frying the rest, but the junk food over here is particularly peculiar. Sorry, Frances, but I will never understand potato chips flavoured as “lamb and mint”. Ketchup, understandable, meat and associated sauces, no. Must remember to bring some of these offending edibles home to Canada to share with the non-believers.

Another interesting point to note about British food is that we are developing a theory that this island bears a culinary curse. Ray and I are not fantastic chefs but we like to think of ourselves as moderately capable in the kitchen. Interestingly enough, though, since we’ve been cooking in our flat we have managed to completely mangle two separate meals, rendering them basically inedible, and many of our tried-and-true recipes seem to fall flat. Perhaps British people are great chefs, but there is something in the air here that does bad things to good food. For those of you planning on visiting us at some point, fear not, we will keep working to cook edible food over here and by the time you get here we promise you will be well-fed. If not by us, as least by the local restaurants!
