A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN
I bring you the Lake District, in all it's glory:

Our mascot Poober, ready to hit the road.

Our first stop in the Lake District was Windermere. The town of Windermere is very quaint and touristy; we just stopped in quickly to pick up some maps and then headed on our way. We wanted to be away from the crowds!

We took this teeny ferry across Windermere; it only took 5 minutes to make the crossing.

Our B&B. This is the front entrance; the original barn structure dates from the early 1600s.

Our window looked out on this view over the fields and hills.

This was our room. The bathroom had vaulted ceilings too!

One of the B&B's best features? The resident goats.

This was a lovely church in the nearby village of Cockermouth.

Our morning drive took us through some stunning scenery.

The landscape was as varied as it was beautiful.

The Castlerigg Standing Stones were amazing. This circle dates back between 4000 and 6000 years and was likely used in ancient ceremonies similar to those at Stonehenge. The positioning of the stones may also have worked as a primitive calendar to assist farmers in timing the planting of their crops.

We lunched at this adorable cafe in Keswick before setting off on our ramble.

We shared the hills with many sheep.

Not a bad view, eh?!

Always important: taking a break and consulting the map.

Our walk took us through lower-elevation terrain as well; we went through a bit of a wood...

...and along the edge of Derwentwater (you can just see the edge of the lake beyond this pasture).

This postbox was at the end of a drive in the forest and I think it's my favourite postbox location yet.

Looking back up the summit of Cat's Bells (so named for the mountain cats that lived here several hundred years ago). We hiked to the top of that peak and along that ridge is where we took many of our photos from.

The Lake District is full of sheep (and yes, we were absolutely zooming along only inches from the stone wall)

We drove through the Yorkshire Dales on our way back to Cambridge.

Ya gotta love it when you're in a part of the country where it isn't unusual to look out your car window and see a tractor in the roundabout lane next to you.
I think the photos speak for themselves. How could we not have a fantastic time in such a beautiful place? In fact, we've only been back in Cambridge for two days but we're already planning how to get back up to the Lakes.
P.S. These photos are just a sampling of all the shots we took over 2 1/2 days...just imagine the number of photos I racked up over 5 days in Budapest. This is why it is taking me a while to get them organized!
